LOEWE x Paula's Ibiza 2020
Each design is bold, bright and infused with happiness. Crafted in vibrantly coloured, lightweight acetate, each frame is bold and rectangular with striking oval lenses - a bohemian shape capturing the breezy, liberated spirit of the Balearics.
The original Paula’s Ibiza boutique was founded in 1972 by Armin Heinemann and Stuart Rudnick in Ibiza’s Old Town. Since then, Paula’s Ibiza has been celebrated as a hub for individuality, self-expression and self-indulgence - it is the ultimate cult destination for creatives from around the globe.
Each pair of LOEWE Paula’s Ibiza sunglasses takes inspiration from the romantic lifestyle and free-spirited attitudes of Ibiza’s notoriously glamorous denizens. Taking design cues from Paula’s extensive archive of prints, the LOEWE eyewear collection combines colourful, fluorescent acetates and contrasts them against strikingly shiny finishes.
This capsule collection of accessories is a continuation of LOEWE’s ongoing collaboration with Paula’s Ibiza. Amongst the many influences Jonathan Anderson has cited for this collection, his experience of the island’s infamous rave culture has come to the fore: ‘there is escapism in rave culture, which generated here, that I find very timely and I want to explore. The collection is a visual feast’. We cannot agree more and have felt totally transported by the collection and the campaign images which were shot by Gray Sorrenti in New Delhi. Each image brings the vibrancy of the sunglasses to life and reflects the vibrant attitude of Ibiza's hippy heyday. Sorrenti’s protagonists are captured partying in Dilliwalen Havelis, riding scooters and tuk-tuks along rarely seen corners of the capital’s streets and BMXing on rooftops.
Paired with this spirited and lively story of Paula’s Ibiza is a determined dedication to true craftsmanship. LOEWE’s heritage is tied very closely to artisans and their work. Through carefully curated collaborations the house strengthens the art of their craft and culture, collaborating with communities of artisans using specialist handcraft techniques in strong evidence within each piece of the Paula’s Ibiza 2020 collection. The full capsule collection of ready-to-wear for men and women fuses coastal dressing with subversive hints at clubwear, comprising long linen tunics, cropped dungarees, woven bags and bleached jeans.
The Day-Glo acetate sunglasses are the key accessory within the 2020 collection that pays homage to the rich party history of the island.
The Paula’s Ibiza 2020 eyewear emulates that ecstatic abandon of rave culture and can be summarised as ‘part rave, part cyber dog’. Each frame has its own architecture comprised of acidic neons and sunset hues of scarlet, orange and midnight black that can only be found in the Ibiza sky.
No other pair of sunglasses so succinctly represent that feeling of Ibiza:
As Summer adventures are few and far between for many of us this year - the Paula’s Ibiza 2020 collection provides us with a much-needed dose of optimism, escapism and comfort. We welcome the hippie haven of yesteryear that Gray Sorrenti has captured so well and we hope you use it as a source of sun-drenched inspiration as much as we have.
Au Revoir,
PRET A VOIR
